Don Elí Jacob Montero - Costa Rica Terrazu
Late summer when coffees from our friends at Don Elí in Costa Rica arrive is one of our favorite times of the year. After visiting them in 2020 we knew we had made lasting friendships with some of the best producers in the country. This year we are happy to share with you three coffees from the same cultivar that have undergone different processing methods unique to Don Elí from Carlos and his son Jacob Montero.
Taking the new spin on El Llano even further, Jacob Montero has given some of this lot an anaerobic fermentation period to push the coffee into some wilder territory that finds itself right at home with our love for the experimental side of things. This processing lends the cup an overwhelming sweetness balanced by a beautiful wine acidity. We are finding tons of juicy watermelon upfront followed by a rich cherry syrup sweetness (not unlike a Shirley Temple) and a lingering acidity that is similar to skin-contact wines. This is one of our favorite coffees we have had all year. Cheers!
