Victor & Alejo Ortega - Colombia, San Augustin

This is our second year working with father and son producers Victor and Alejandro (known as Alejo) Ortega and we are honored to share their coffee with our community. Producers like Victor and Alejo have worked tirelessly to overcome the challenges smallholders often face in our industry, and thanks to equally dedicated partners like Semilla we are able to serve this incredible coffee and look forward to many years of victor and Alejo’s delicious coffees.

As with last year’s harvest this coffee is an immediate favorite for us. We have taken a different approach to the roast this year to bring out this Pink Bourbon’s intrinsic sweetness and floral notes. The result is an incredibly expressive cup with a juicy acidity, soft florals, and deep sweetness reminding us of pomegranate, honeydew, oolong tea, and taffy.

The following is a small note from Alejo, translated into English:

“My beginning as a coffee grower began as I watched my grandfather already working in the coffee fields. They worked hard and did everything with love, and that’s why I also fell in love with coffee growing. I’m a coffee grower because I love the countryside and I love coffee. As a coffee grower, I feel great because coffee has taught me how to be a better person — how to have patience and to do things with dedication and love and as a coffee growing family, coffee has united us even more since we work side by side as a team in everything. I hope that coffee growing will continue to teach me to be a better person and that I can help my family, because I know now that if I work hard, I can achieve whatever I wish.”
